Q. A simply supported beam of 8 m long has a point load of 10 kN at its centre. Determine the reactions of supports and maximum bending moment.

Q. A simply supported beam of 8 m long has a point load of 10 kN at its centre. Determine the reactions of supports and maximum bending moment.

SOLUTION:

The loading given on the simply supported beam is symmetrica
Hence R{A} = R{B} = 10/2 = 5kN

BMD (BENDING MOMENT DIAGRAM )

M{A} = M{B} = 0 ( why because It’s simply supports)
M{C} = 5 × 4 = 20kNm

(OR)

Mmax = wl /4 = (10 × 8 )/4
= 80/4
=20 kNm

.: Max BM occurs at C=M max =20 kNm

Q. A simply supported beam of span 4m carrying  1kn at its centre. Find the reactions.

SOLUTION:

TO find the reactions

Total load = 1 kn

As the load on the beam is symmetrical, then

RA =RB

     = 1/2 = 0.5 Kn
